There is nothing more expensive than a cheap German car

Speaking as an owner of an 07 a4 with 160K on the clock, I can confirm...

A working dual sunroof is somewhat rare, it has a non-VANOS M50, which is one of BMWs most reliable engines. Oh and hatch wiring is often an issue with the tourings. E34s are solid cars, but the tourings do have their specific issues that are worth looking into. This also has a GM 4L30E trans, which I know nothing about. Also the price seems high.

I had my E34 535i sedan for 2 years and it always started and ran well. It had little gremlins but nothing too bad; and what you posted would be better for those little things as there was an E34 refresh around 1990-91 as I recall. Man, $5k for a 2 pedal wagon with a smaller engine seems steep though.

A quick google seems to imply the aren’t bad transmissions, but this could be a very pricey DD

I think there is some inflation due to the colors, probably not too common

It could be, but as far as BMWs go, E34s are some of the most reliable. The simplicity compared to E39s and newer makes a big difference. But you couldn’t buy it and bank on it being like a Camry or something.

Also, that said, a touring has potential to be less reliable, due to the dual sunroof and hatch wiring. Nothing huge, but it is a factor.

Yeah, with my current pay grade, I think the bike would have to go to be able to maintain it

As the owner of a $14k Porsche 911, I have installed a large billboard proclaiming the truth of that statement as well.

If you’re unsure about affording it, it’s probably smarter to hold off. You could also try out a different E34, for less money but still well maintained, and get an idea what they really cost to run. As long as you can tinker with some things yourself, and nothing has really been abused too much, you should be fine.

I mean I’d do it. But I own 2 e30's and an e39 so I might be biased. Price is a little high for an auto IMO though.

Granted, Arthur Dent was speaking about Ford Prefect there, but I think it applies to BMW cars as well.

Saw an E34 wagon yesterday and started dreaming...those things do have a very nice look to them.

I know nothing about the engine, but I’ve always been intrigued by the 3.0l V8 in the 92+ 530i. Gotta be one of the smallest V8s in recent-ish history right?
